Day 1 – June 20 

Arrival at La Casona de Yucay in Urubamba, Sacred Valley 5:00 pm. We will gather at the hotel restaurant for dinner followed by a traditional Despacho ceremony, where we will set our intentions for the retreat and make an offering of gratitude to the Andean Earth Mother, Pachamama.

Day 2 – June 21

5:00 am. Sunrise Solstice Practice, we will gather for a ride up to the sacred temple ruins on the mountain of Pisac. After our Vinyasa practice, we will have a picnic breakfast and hike down the mountain to town and back to the hotel.

1:00 pm. This afternoon we will enjoy a traditional celebratory feast in our retreat, the Pachamanca, prepared especially for our group in a private home. Because we are still adjusting to the high altitude, after our meal, there will be free time to rest at the hotel or explore the shops in town. In the evening, there will be a light snack at the restaurant followed by meditation practice that will assist us in connecting with the land and adjusting to the altitude.

Day 3 – June 22

7:30 am. Breakfast

10:30 am. Excursion to Moray, an Incan archeological site. The site consists of several enormous circular terraces that are thought to have been an experimental agricultural center used by the Inca to study the effects of climate on food production. We will have a practice of breathwork and ecstatic postures followed by a picnic lunch. We will return to the hotel for free time and an early dinner, followed by an evening meditation practice.

Day 4 – June 23 

7:30 am. Breakfast

8:30 – 10:30 am.  Practice Yin Yoga

11:00 am. Brunch at the hotel restaurant

1:30 pm. Excursion to Awana Kancha, weaving community and living museum. Here we will discover the complexity of the Andean artistic tradition, see weaving demonstrations and visit the museum shop. We will then return to the plaza in Pisac to explore the craft market.  Today is a great day to buy gifts and high quality textile items! In the evening, we will be served a light dinner at the hotel restaurant, followed by Kundalini practice and meditation.

Day 5 – June 24 Awana Kancha, Peru retreat itinerary, Transformative Destinations

5:00 am. Departure for the train ride to Machu Picchu, picnic breakfast on train.  We will have a guided tour of the majestic Incan City of Light. After a picnic lunch at the site, we will hike to Inti Punku, the original Incan Gateway to the Sun. We will take a late afternoon train and arrive at our hotel in Pisac for dinner, satsang and stretching practice by the fire.

Day 6 – June 25

7:30 am. Breakfast

8:30 – 9:30 am. Practice Plyo Pilates

10:30 am. We will hike to a lesser known site, Mauka Iglesia, with a sacred chakana and spring to meet our Q’ero shaman for a ceremony honoring Yaku, the spirit of water. After a picnic lunch at the site, we will return to the hotel for some free time. In the evening, we will go into town for dinner at the plaza and live music!

Day 7 – June 26

7:30 am. Breakfast

8:30 – 9:30 am. Practice Hatha Yoga

Ollantaytambo, retreat, Peru retreat itinerary, transformative destinations10:30 am. Ollantaytambo excursion. Ollantaytambo was an Inca fortress that also served as a temple. After hiking and practice at the temple ruins, we will have a picnic lunch, then explore the quaint village known for its cobblestone streets that have been continuously inhabited since the 13th century.

7:00 pm. Farewell dinner and satsang by the fire at the hotel.

Day 8 – June 27

Departure, breakfast and picnic lunch provided! End of the Peru retreat itinerary.
